ALCV’s 200 member contributed 16,380 in volunteer hours last year. Volunteers manage and staff the Bargain Box Thrift Store in San Clemente, which is the primary source of revenue for funding programs. For the past two years, the Bargain Box won the silver award for the best thrift store in San Clemente. In over forty years of service, ALCV has given back over $5.5 million to the community.
At a recent ribbon cutting to celebrate the Bargain Box Thrift Store’s recent improvements, San Clemente Mayor Gene James shared “The Assistance League of Capistrano Valley is an amazing organization. In the past year, they have delivered more than $249,000 to our local students, military members and their families, educators and other community members. This is a nonprofit that delivers in a huge way to the community with no paid employees and very little overhead. It is indeed an amazing group of volunteers; they personify the greatness of San Clemente.”
In fiscal year 2021/22, the Assistance League of Capistrano Valley awarded $56,300 in scholarships to 14 individuals ranging from $3,000-$5,600 per applicant. Recipients include high school seniors of military families in the Capistrano Valley school district and young adults attending Saddleback College who are enrolled in the CalWORKS program and the nursing program.
“We are delighted to award these worthy recipients with a scholarship and wish them great success in the future.” Cheryl Warnagieris, President, Assistance League of Capistrano Valley.
